Alcoa was founded in 1888 as Pittsburgh Reduction Company and changed its name to Aluminum Company of America in 1907. Further, the company changed its name to Alcoa Inc. in 1999. The company is based in New York City. Alain J.P. Belda is the Chairman & Chief Executive of Alcoa Inc.
 
Alcoa Inc. The Group's principal activity is to produce aluminum products. It operates in six segments. Alumina segment includes the mining of bauxite. Primary Metals segment produces aluminum ingot. Flat Rolled Products segment produces and sells aluminum plate, sheet and foil. Engineered Products segment includes hard and soft alloy extrusions, super-alloy castings, aluminum forgings and wheels. Packaging and Consumer segment includes consumer, food service and flexible packaging products; plastic sheet and film for the packaging industry.
 
Alcoa Inc. produces primary aluminum, fabricated aluminum, and alumina worldwide. It offers flat-rolled products, such as sheet and plate, foil products, and can reclamations; engineered solutions that comprise aerospace products, automotive components,  castings, auto engineering products, and fasteners; extruded and end products, such as extrusion, tube, rolling facilities, and home exteriors; and packaging and consumer products, which include packaging products, food service packaging, closures, and polymerization and extrusions.
 
In addition, the company offer non aluminum products, including precision castings, industrial fasteners, vinyl siding, plastic closures, and electrical distribution systems for cars and trucks. The company has joint venture with China International Trust and Investment Company to produce aluminum rolled products.
 
They earned 608 million dollars, or 69 cents per share, compared with earnings of 260 million dollars, or 30 cents per share, during the same period a year ago. The results included a loss of a penny per share from discontinued operations. Analysts, on average, were expecting earnings of 51 cents per share, on sales of 7.2 billion dollars, according to a Thomson Financial poll.
 
The trademark of the Group includes Alcoa, Howmet metal, Huck fasteners, Baco household wraps and Reynolds plastic wrap. It operates in the United States and other countries. During 2005, it acquired remaining 30 percent minority interest in Alcoa Closure Systems International Co and remaining 40 percent interest in the Alcoa Shanghai Aluminum Products Ltd.
