Big Lots is one of the publicly traded companies having a good stock performance result. Big Lots is a fortune 500 stock listed company trading under BLI.

Sol Shenk founded the company, Big Lots in 1967 which currently operate over 1,400 stores in 47 states. It also operates a Wholesale Division. The stores of company are located across the country in cities large and small and in all kinds of neighborhoods. They range in size from 20,000 to 60,000 square feet, with annual per-store sales averaging 3.8 million dollars.

Steve Fishman is chairman, chief executive officer and president of Big Lots, Inc. He joined Big Lots in July 2005. He oversees a retail enterprise with over 1,500 stores and more than 45,000 associates across the United States.

Net sales for the fourth quarter ended January 28, 2006 were 1,394.9 million dollars a 6.1 percent increase compared to net sales of 1,314.1 million dollars for the same period of fiscal 2004. Comparable store sales for stores open at least two years as of the beginning of the fiscal year increased 2.5 percent for the quarter consisting of a 5.1 percent increase in the value of the average basket. Net sales for the fiscal year 2005 increased 6.8 percent to 4,429.9 million dollars compared to 4,149.3 million dollars in fiscal 2004.

The Company anticipates fiscal 2006 earnings of 0.38 dollars to 0.43 dollars per diluted share compared to income from continuing operations of 0.14 dollars per diluted share for fiscal 2005. The Company's earnings guidance is based on a comparable store sales increase in the 2 percent to 3 percent range with net sales from continuing operations increasing in the 3 percent to 4 percent range compared to fiscal 2005.

For the first quarter of fiscal 2006, net sales are estimated in the range of 1,075 million dollars to 1,095 million dollars, an increase of 3 percent to 5 percent compared to net sales from continuing operations in the first quarter of fiscal 2005. Based on this level of sales performance, the company's earnings are estimated to be in the range of 0.04 dollars to 0.07 dollars per diluted share, compared to income from continuing operations for the first quarter of fiscal 2005 of 0.06 dollars per diluted share.
