Borders Group was founded in 1994. It was formerly known as Borders-Walden Group and changed its name to Borders Group, Inc. in 1995. Borders Group is headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It has more than 35,000 employees worldwide with a rich shopping experience and provides them with the books, music, movies, and other entertainment items they love in a relaxing, enjoyable atmosphere.

Greg Josefowicz is chairman, president and chief executive officer of Borders Group, Inc. Under his leadership we built the core Borders superstore business with a special emphasis on maintaining strength in books as the centerpiece of the Borders brand.
 
Borders Group Inc. reported final fourth quarter and full-year 2005 results for the period ended January 2006. Fourth quarter consolidated earnings per share were 1.78 dollars, which is up 9.9 percent over the same period last year. The earnings per share increase were driven by Borders domestic superstore comparable store sales of 2.5 percent in the fourth quarter and a lower share count from stock repurchases. For the full year, consolidated earnings per share were 1.42 dollars compared to  1.69 dollars earned in 2004. In the fourth quarter, we began to see the benefits of investments made in Borders stores and we learned where capital is best deployed to drive future returns. It continued to provide direct returns to shareholders in the form of dividends and stock repurchases.
 
In 2005, the company repurchased 11.6 million shares of its common stock totaling 265.9 million dollars. Capital expenditures were 196.3 million dollars for the full year 2005 .As a result of these investments, debt, net of cash, totaled 130.9 million dollars at year-end compared to cash and short-term investments net of debt of 143.2 million dollars one year ago. At the close of fiscal 2005, there were 473 domestic Borders Superstores. In the International segment, there are 55 Borders superstores located mainly in the U.K. and Asia Pacific, as well as 33 Books etc. stores primarily throughout Great Britain.
