This compares to prior-year fourth-quarter earnings of 400 million dollar, or 1.02 dollar per diluted share, which included a 0.15 dollar per share after-tax impairment charge. The net cash provided by operating activities increased to 1,573 million dollars during the fourth quarter from 962 million dollars during the prior year's fourth quarter.
