Merchant Energy segment engages in the operation, ownership and maintenance of nuclear, fossil and hydroelectric generating facilities.
 
It is the nation’s leading supplier of competitive electricity to large commercial and industrial customers. They are the one of the nation’s largest wholesale power sellers. A major generator of electricity with a diversified fleet of power plants strategically situated throughout the United States.
 
Regulated Electric segment engages in transmitting, purchasing, distributing, and selling electricity in Maryland. Regulated Gas segment engages in purchasing, transporting, and selling natural gas in Maryland. As well, the company engages in constructing, designing, and operating cooling, heat and cogeneration facilities for industrial, commercial and municipal customers in North America.
 
It provides home improvements, service electric and gas appliances, air conditioning, electrical, service heating, plumbing and indoor air quality systems, as well as natural gas marketing to residential customers in Central Maryland.
 
Provided to that a 35 percent total return to shareholders assuming that the reinvestment of dividends have earned 3.62 dollars per share excluding special items and non-qualifying hedges, up 16 percent from 3.12 dollars per share in 2004. They grew their revenues to 17.1 billion dollars. They are the North America’s leading supplier of competitive energy and manage more than 31,000 megawatts of commercial and industrial customers’ peak load.  Their combined revenues in 2004 totaled 12.5 billion dollars.
 
It also provides risk management services for a variety of customers, including hedging of output from generating facilities and fuel costs coal sourcing services for the North American and international power generators and operations and maintenance consulting services. In addition, Merchant Energy segment provides customized energy related products and services to commercial, government and industrial customers.
