Consumer Credit Counseling Service is a nonprofit, community service agency whose services are open to all members of the community. They have 18 locations throughout Greater Atlanta, GA, West Palm Beach and the Treasure Coast, FL, Jackson and Middle Mississippi, and Knoxville and East Tennessee. Serving north Georgia since 1964 and south Florida since 1975, the firm was founded by the local business community to educate consumers about money management, promote the wise use of credit as a tool for financial planning, and assist individuals and families in overcoming financial difficulties. They are governed by a diverse; community based Board of Directors representing north Georgia, east Tennessee, mid-Mississippi and south Florida. This is a member of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling and was named the NFCC Outstanding Agency of the Year for 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002. The services they provide are Budget Counseling: Professional, certified counselors offer individual advice for developing and balancing budgets, managing money, using credit wisely, and building a savings plan. The firm develops reduced payment programs with creditors for individuals and families who are overextended. In many cases, debt repayment plans provide sound alternatives to bankruptcy.
The firm is certified by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as a comprehensive housing counseling agency. Service is provided in the areas of pre-purchase counseling, mortgage default, rent delinquency, post-occupancy counseling and loan declinations. The firm offers community-wide programs on money management, credit, and consumerism. 36,336 low income families, working adults, students and senior citizens received financial education through them last year.
