Global Experts Explain How Funds Can Attract Billions in Investment From Islamic Investors

(PRWEB) November 15, 2005 -- Capital market limitations in the Middle East are drawing billions of dollars in alternative investment products in Europe and the U.S. But only financial vehicles that meet strict Shariah criteria get approved by a board of Shariah scholars and can then be deemed appropriate for Islamic investment.

Join an Institutional Investor audio conference as three leading international Islamic financial experts discuss how to structure Shariah-compliant financial products --- and how to market them to Islamic financial investors. They will discuss business practices taboo to Islamic investors --- no pork products, for example, and no interest-bearing or interest-charging products --- but also detail how to establish a Shariah-compliant fund.

Speakers will discuss core financial values of Islamic financial investors and techniques for preparing quasi-financial assets such as real estate and commodities for investment. They will update the regulatory environment surrounding Shariah-compliant funds and discuss finding the right partners --- and where to find them.

Speakers are: Eric Meyer is president and CEO of Shariah Capital and Fund Management. A pioneer in Shariah-compliant funds in the U.S., Mr. Meyer is a fund manager of the Shariah Long/Short Master Fund Ltd. and Shariah Market Neutral Master Fund Ltd. He is a founder of the first multi-manager funds of hedge funds that comply with Shariah law. He was a former long/short hedge fund manager and venture capitalist.

Sheikh Yusuf Talal DeLorenzo is a scholar of Shariah, or Islamic Law and has educated financiers, lawyers, accountants, economists, and fund managers on the implementation of modern Islamic Finance Islamic scholarship. He has served on numerous Shariah boards, including those with the Dow Jones Islamic Market Indexes, the Canadian Islamic Bank, the New York-based Silver Crescent Private Equity Fund and the London-based Societe General Asset Management. He is the chairman of the Wafra Investment Advisory Group's Shariah board. Sheikh DeLorenzo has written extensively on Arabic culture, language and finance and from 1981 to 1984 he advised the Pakistan government on Islamic education. He was raised and educated in the U.S. and studied Islamic law in the Middle East and Pakistan.

Abdulkader Thomas is the President and CEO of Shape Financial, which designs and structures Islamic financial solutions for the capital markets and banking sectors. Clients include banks, securities firms and prospective issuers seeking to understand the intricacies of Islamic processes and how these may open new markets or improve their operations.

This conference will be of special interest to venture capitalists, managers and principals of real estate investment trusts, hedge fund principals and managers and attorneys.
