Ariel Fund was founded in 1983 by John W. Rogers, Jr., Ariel Capital Management, LLC ,is a privately owned Chicago-based money management firm ,located at Chicago Illinois. The fund has grown from 2 to almost 100 employees with more than 19 billion dollars in assets under fund management. It manages separate accounts for corporate, public, union and non-profit organizations as well as serves as the investment adviser to the publicly-traded, no-load Ariel Mutual Funds.
The investment seeks long-term capital appreciation. Investments are primarily in the stocks of smaller companies with market capitalizations generally between 500 million and 2.5 billion. It typically contains no more than 45 stocks and seeks socially responsible, undervalued companies and not those whose primary source of revenue is not derived from the production or sale of tobacco products, the generation of nuclear energy, or the manufacturing of handguns.
Ariel Focus investment is a non-diversified fund that seeks long-term capital appreciation. The fund invests primarily in the stocks of companies which at the time of initial purchase by the fund have market capitalizations in excess of 10 billion dollars. It seeks to invest in quality companies in industries where Ariel has expertise. The fund only buys when Ariel determines that these businesses are selling at excellent values. The fund is no diversified.
