Vanguard

Vanguard is one of the world's largest investment management companies and established in 1975 with its corporate headquarters situated in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Vanguard provides 130 domestic funds and 40 additional funds in international markets.

Vanguard 500 Index Fund seeks to track the performance of a benchmark index that measures the investment return of large-capitalization stocks. The fund employs a passive management investment approach designed to track the performance of the Standard & Poor's 500 Index, a widely recognized benchmark of U.S. stock market performance that is dominated by the stocks of large U.S. companies.

Vanguard Asset Allocation Fund seeks total return. The fund allocates assets among common stocks, bonds, and money-market instruments. It varies the asset mix according to the relative attractiveness of the asset classes; there is no limitation as to the amount of assets in each class. The bond portion consists primarily of long-term U.S. Treasuries or securities issued by other government agencies. The advisor assesses common stocks using a dividend-discount model, a mathematical model that evaluates stocks according to the projected worth of their dividends.

Vanguard Balanced Index Fund seeks growth and income. The fund normally invests 60percent of assets in equities and 40percent in bonds. The equity portion seeks to replicate the Wilshire 5000 Index performance; to this end, the fund invests primarily in the 500 largest companies on the index and samples the rest. The fixed-income portion seeks to replicate the Lehman Brothers Aggregate Bond Index performance.

Vanguard Capital Value Fund seeks maximum long-term total return. It seeks companies that are out of favor with investors and that are trading at prices below what the stocks are worth compared to potential earnings. The companies often have lower price\earnings ratios and higher dividend yields. The fund invests in stocks across the capitalization spectrums that are considered undervalued.

Vanguard Energy Fund seeks long-term growth of capital. The fund normally invests at least 80percent of assets in equity securities of traditional or emerging companies engaged in energy-related activities. These companies may be involved in the production, transmission, marketing, control, or measurement of energy or energy fuels. The fund may not invest in electric-utility companies, though it may invest in natural-gas distributors and pipelines. It may invest up to 100percent of assets in foreign securities.

Vanguard serves as an investment advisor in order to provide investors with a clever method of recognizing hold in low esteem situations.
