Their financial performance in 2005 included the following highlights They reported record revenues for the third year in a row, reaching 14.6 billion dollars, a 26percent increase over the previous year; they delivered record net income of 3.3 billion dollars, a 38percent increase over the prior year’s record figure; they increased their pre-tax margin to 33.0percent; their return on average common stockholders’ equity to 21.6percent; and their return on tangible equity to 27.8percent;  they reported record earnings per share of 10.87 dollars, a 38percent increase over the prior year; and their stock price rose more than 50percent to 126 dollars, and they have delivered a total return of 1,087percent over the past decade.


Average tangible common stockholders’ equity in 2003 was appropriately weighted for the effect of the equity issued in connection with the Neuberger Berman acquisition on October 31, 2003. In 2005, Lehman Brothers was named Best Investment Bank by Euro money magazine and ranked 1 for the second consecutive year in the Global Custodian Prime Brokerage Survey, winning 29 Best in Class awards.
