Rockwell Automation, a leading global provider of industrial automation power, control and information solutions, reported fiscal 2006 first quarter income from continuing operations of 145.7 million dollars. Net income, which includes discontinued operations, was also 145.7 million dollars this quarter compared to 133.4 million dollars in fiscal 2005.

Sales for the first quarter were 1301.4 million dollars, up 10 percent compared to 1184.9 million dollars in the first quarter of 2005. Adjusted for the impact of currency translation, sales increased 11 percent. Segment operating earnings in the first quarter were 248.4 million dollars, up 16 percent compared to 213.6 million dollars in the first quarter of 2005.

For the fiscal second quarter, as was the case in 2005, the company expects to experience typical seasonality in customer capital spending. This could result in sequentially lower daily sales volume and a less profitable revenue mix versus the favorable first quarter results. Free cash flow for the first quarter of 2006 was a use of cash of 213.4 million dollars and included the contribution of 450 million dollars pre-tax to the company's pension trust in early October. First quarter 2005 free cash flow was 90.4 million dollars.
