Waste Management Inc. is a publicly traded company with a good stock performance record. Waste Management Inc. is a fortune 500 stock listed company trading under the symbol WMI.  The company, formerly known as USA Waste Services, Inc., was founded in 1894 and changed its name to Waste Management, Inc. in 1998. Waste Management is based in Houston, Texas.
 
Waste Management, Inc., through its subsidiaries, offers integrated waste management services in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada. The company provides collection, transfer, recycling, disposal, and waste-to-energy services. It offers third-party sub-contracted services, methane gas recovery, portable toilet, and fence rentals and other miscellaneous services. The company also rents and services portable restroom facilities to municipalities and commercial customers, as well as provides street and parking lot sweeping services. In addition, it develops, operates, and owns waste-to-energy facilities. As of December 31, 2005, the company owned and operated approximately 370 transfer stations, 17 waste-to-energy facilities, 95 landfill gas projects, and 245 landfill disposal sites. It serves commercial, industrial, municipal, and residential customers; other waste management companies; electric utilities; and governmental entities.
 
Waste Management, Inc. announced financial results for its fourth quarter and for the year ended December 31, 2005. Revenues for the quarter were 3.37 billion dollars compared with 3.21 billion dollars in the year ago period, an increase of 5.1 percent. The net income for the quarter was 290 million dollars or 0.52 dollar per diluted share, compared with 269 million, or 0.47 dollar per diluted share, for the fourth quarter 2004, or a 7.8 percent increase in net income and a 10.6 percent increase in earnings per share.
 
The Company generated 665 million dollars in net cash from operating activities and 286 million dollars of free cash flow during the quarter. For the year, the company produced nearly 2.4 billion dollars in net cash from operating activities and over 1.4 billion dollars of free cash flow. They returned 1.16 billion dollars in cash to their shareholders during 2005, which was comprised of cash dividend payments of 449 million dollars and share repurchases of 706 million dollars.
