It operates in five segments of Mortgage Banking, which originates, purchases, securitizes and services mortgage loans Capital Markets, services residential and commercial mortgage loans which operates as an institutional broker-dealer that primarily specializes in trading and underwriting mortgage-backed securities Insurance, which offers property, casualty, life and credit insurance as an underwriter and as an independent agent Banking, which operates a federally chartered bank that primarily invests in mortgage loans and home equity lines of credit primarily sourced through its mortgage banking operation, and Global Operations, which provides mortgage loan application processing and mortgage loan servicing.



 


Countrywide Financial Corporation, a holding company, engages in mortgage lending and other finance-related operations. The company operates in five segments: Mortgage Banking, Banking, Capital Markets, Insurance, and Global Operations. This segment also provides various loan closing products and services, such as credit reports, title reports, appraisals, property valuation services, and flood determinations.



 


The Banking segment primarily invests in mortgage loans and home equity lines of credit primarily sourced through its mortgage banking operation. This segment also provides short-term secured financing to mortgage lenders through a non depository lending company to finance their mortgage loan inventories. In addition, it offers a variety of deposit accounts.



 


The Capital Markets segment operates as an institutional broker-dealer that primarily specializes in trading and underwriting mortgage-backed securities. Its activities consist of conduit, underwriting, securities trading, brokering, asset management and origination and sale of commercial mortgage loans. The Insurance segment offers property, casualty, life, and credit insurance, as well as provides reinsurance coverage to primary mortgage insurers. The Global Operations segment provides loan processing and sub-servicing, and valuation services.
