Commerce

Commerce Bank initiated the development of proprietary mutual funds in late 1993, early 1994 to continue to provide high quality investment products for our customers. The Commerce Funds became effective on 12-12-1994 with approximately 251 million dollars in assets. At that time there were six funds, Growth, Aggressive Growth, Balanced, Bond, Short-Term Government and International Equity. In February of 1995, the National and Missouri Tax-Free Funds were added.

The various kinds of funds are currently in the market are Commerce Asset Allocation Inst, Commerce Bond Instl, Commerce Core Equity Instl, Commerce Growth Instl, Commerce International Equity Instl, Commerce KS Tx-Fr Interm Bd Instl and Commerce MidCap Growth Instl.

Commerce Asset Allocation Inst seeks total return through capital appreciation and current income. The Fund seeks to achieve its investment objective by investing in a combination of underlying funds for which the Adviser now or in the future acts as investment adviser. The Fund may also invest in other unaffiliated underlying funds. Under normal market conditions, approximately 60 percent of the Fund's total assets will be allocated among Equity Funds and 40 percent to Underlying Fixed-Income Funds.

Commerce Bond Instl seeks current income. Capital appreciation is secondary. The fund normally invests at least 65 percent of assets in debt rated A or better, including U.S. government and corporate debt, zero-coupon bonds, and money markets. It may invest up to 20% in foreign debt. To select specific debt issues, the fund examines historical yield relationships between corporate and government bonds, intermarket yield relationships among various industry sectors, current economic cycles, and the creditworthiness of particular issuers. It expects to maintain an average weighted duration within  30 percent of the Lehman Brothers Aggregate Bond index.

Commerce Core Equity Instl seeks capital appreciation. The fund invests, under normal market conditions, at least 65 percent of assets in equity securities. The fund usually purchases common stock of companies whose characteristics are comparable to those included in S&P 500 index.

The customer service focus they had then is repeated today as they constantly look for ways to improve their product services. Shareholder satisfaction continues to be their primary goal. At The Commerce Funds, focus is squarely on what matters most: the financial success and well-being of the customers.
