Homestead

Homestead Funds began doing business in 1990 with the launch of a money market fund and a single equity fund. They stay focused on their core business investing.

The Homestead Small-Company Stock Fund seeks long-term growth of capital through investment primarily in stocks of small and medium sized companies and stocks currently selling below what Fund managers believe to be their fundamental value. The Fund's share price could fluctuate considerably over the short term; thus, the Fund is best suited for individuals with long-term time horizons.

Homestead Value investment seeks long-term growth of capital and income; current income is secondary. It may invest the balance in other equity securities and high grade debt. The fund primarily selects established companies that may be undervalued or overlooked. The fund normally invests at least 80 percent of assets in common stocks. This screening process looks at earnings potential, dividend income, price/earnings ratios, competitive advantages, and price/book ratios.

Homestead Stock Index Fund seeks to match, as closely as possible, before expenses, the performance of the Standard & Poor's 500 Stock Index. Up to 20 percent of the fund's assets may be invested in other types of securities including money market instruments and other short-term debt securities. Under normal conditions, the fund will invest at least 80 percent of assets in stocks of companies included in the Standard & Poor's 500 and in derivative instruments, such as futures contracts and options.

Homestead International Stock Index investment seeks to match as closely as possible, before expenses, the performance of the Morgan Stanley Capital International Europe, Australasia, Far East Index, an index of more than 1,000 stocks representing over 20 developed market countries. Because the fund's underlying investments are stocks and other securities that act like stocks, the fund is appropriate for long-term investors who can tolerate fluctuations in the worth of their account.

Homestead Short-Term Government investment seeks current income. The fund normally invests at least 65 percent of assets in U.S. government securities such as bonds, Treasury bills, notes, and repurchase agreements collateralized by such securities. Management adjusts the composition of investments and the average maturity of the portfolio to minimize fluctuations in market value based on general economic and financial trends. The fund's dollar-weighted average effective maturity will not exceed three years.

As far as possible, Homestead strives to keep fund fees and expenses low.
