KeySpan Corporation was formed in May 1998 as a result of the merger of KeySpan Energy Corporation, the parent company of Brooklyn Union Gas, and certain businesses of the Long Island Lighting Company. On November 8, 2000, KeySpan acquired Eastern Enterprises, a Massachusetts business trust, and the parent of several gas utilities operating in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

KeySpan has a solid Gas Distribution business, with approximately 2.6 million gas customers in New York City, Long Island and New England. Their gas utilities are the income drivers of the company and they intend to capitalize on the tremendous growth potential of these markets.

KeySpan provides Electric Service to 1.1 million Long Island Power Authority customers. They own and operate approximately 6,650 Megawatts of generating capacity which serve the capacity tight New York City and Long Island markets. KeySpan's new 250 MW plant at Ravenswood went into commercial operation during the second quarter of 2004.

Their Energy Investments sector includes investments in natural gas pipelines, storage and LNG. These investments utilize their gas and electric core competencies. They also have minority investments in exploration and production as well as gas processing operations. They are financially solid with a plus 6 billion dollars market cap.



 


KeySpan is comprised of regulated natural gas and electric utilities and unregulated subsidiary companies. KeySpan supports engineers, architects, construction managers, energy services companies, developers, and gas marketers/suppliers with useful information or programs designed to meet up their business needs.
