Structural costs were kept in tight check, including a further reduction of 3,100 jobs, making a total reduction of 6,700 jobs since the start of 2003. Capital spending remained within the Company’s 1.3 billion dollars target.
 
The Company continued to expand its profit margins spreading between product prices and feedstock costs by a total of 2 billion dollars for a year. Over the past 2 years, the Company has improved its margins by a total of 3.3 billion dollars. For the year, they increased sales up to 23 percent to an historic high of 40 billion dollars, with 17 percent from higher prices and 6 percent from increased volume.
 
They continued to develop business models that will deliver competitive advantage and sustain their leadership position in the long term, challenging conventional thinking as they sought new ways to ensure sustainable growth.
