Performance Food Group's earliest roots can be traced to 1875, when a food brokerage and distribution company was formed in Richmond, Virginia. Their focus was distributing canned fruits and vegetables for grocery stores and restaurants throughout the mid-Atlantic. Robert C. Sledd is Chairman and Ceo of Performance Food Group. He served from 1987 to August 2001 as Chief Executive Officer and has been the Chairman of the Board since February 1995. Mr. Sledd re-assumed the title of Ceo in March of 2004.
 
Performance Food Group reported results for the third quarter and nine months ended October 1, 2005. On June 28, 2005, the Company completed the sale of its fresh-cut segment to Chiquita Brands International, Inc. All amounts pertaining to the Company’s fresh-cut segment are accounted for as discontinued operations. Consolidated net sales from continuing operations in the third quarter increased to approximately 1.4 billion dollars, a 7.3percent increase compared to the prior year period. Inflation was nominal in the third quarter. Net earnings from continuing operations amounted to approximately 11.9 million dollars compared to roughly 10.8 million dollars in the year earlier period. Net earnings per share from continuing operations were 0.28 dollars per share diluted, compared to 0.23 dollars per share diluted in the prior year period.
 
Based on their current view of the business, they anticipate net earnings per share to be in the range of 1.20 dollars to 1.30 dollars per share diluted for the full year of 2006, which reflects their anticipated expensing of stock compensation costs. They also expect net earnings per share to be in the range of 0.11 dollars to 0.15 dollars per share diluted for the first quarter of 2006. They will preserve their focus on executing their core strategies to drive continued improvement in their business in the coming year and beyond.
