Insurance division provides individual variable life, term life, universal life and nonparticipating whole life insurance, and variable and fixed annuity products primarily to the mass affluent market and mass market. It also offers a range of group life, long-term and short-term group disability, long-term care, and corporate- and trust- owned life insurance to institutional clients, as well as provides accidental death and dismemberment, and other ancillary coverages.
 
Investment division provides an array of investment management and advisory services, mutual funds, and other structured products. It offers research coverage of equity securities primarily to institutional clients, as well as engages in selling and trading, on both an agency and a principal basis, in listed equities and equity options. This division also provides retirement plan products and services to public, private, and not-for-profit organizations.
 
The company distributes its products and services primarily through agents, independent brokers, general agencies, wire houses, banks, proprietary sales force, and field sales representatives. It also offers asset management, banking and trust services, and real estate brokerage and relocation services, as well as, through a joint venture, retail securities brokerage services.
 
The businesses of PRU are separated into the Financial Services Businesses and the Closed Block Business. The Financial Services Businesses is comprised of its Insurance, and Investments divisions and other operations. The Closed Block Business is designed generally to provide for the reasonable expectations of holders of participating individual life insurance policies and annuities included in the Closed Block.
