Allen & Company of Florida was established in 1932 by J. Everett Allen and George O. Craig as Craig-Allen Company and was then located in the Marble Arcade in downtown Lakeland, Florida. In 1938, Everett Allen purchased George Craig's interest in the company and renamed the firm Allen & Company and relocated across the street. The firm decided to focus on equities and Florida municipal bonds.
As time went on the firm expanded to eastern Polk County with the establishment of a sales office in Winter Haven. In the month May of 1987 a new Lakeland office was built in South Florida Avenue and houses the Lakeland sales group, as well as all corporate functions.
