Ocm Investments, Llc is a member of NASD, the National Association of Securities Dealers. NASD is a self-regulatory organization of the securities industry responsible for the operation and regulation of the NASDQ stock market and over the counter markets. It also administrates exams for the investments professionals, such as the series of 7 exams.
Oaktree Capital Management, LLC was founded in April 1995 by Howard Marks, Bruce Karsh, Sheldon Stone, Larry Keele, Richard Masson and Stephen Kaplan. These Oaktree Principals had joined Trust Company of the West since the mid 1980s and directed their high yield bond, convertible value, distressed debt, principal investment and distressed real estate activities.
The founders were joined at Oaktree by 90% of their former investment staff, including all of the senior investment professionals, vice president and others. The firm is comprised of nine Principals and over 300 staff members in Los Angeles, New York, London, Frankfurt, Singapore, Tokyo and Hong Kong.
They are over 90% owned by the Principals and over 80 key employees who are involved day-to-day in the firm’s operations, with the balance held by a group of long-time Oaktree clients.
The U.S. high yield portfolios managed by them purchase only debt of solvent U.S. and Canadian corporations and emphasize senior, cash paying securities and thorough diversifications.
The firm’s bottom up approach to convertibles emphasizes those which offer the greatest bargain those likely to capture a high percentage of the appreciation of the stocks into which they are convertible while exposed to a much lower percentage of any declines which may occur. Convertible securities portfolios which are managed by Oaktree's Principals since 1987 have delivered most of the return of common stocks with reduced volatility and risk.
Oaktree views high yield bond investing as the conscious bearing of credit risk for profit, and it is their approach to pursue the potential high yields offered by these bonds while managing actively and limiting the risk.
