The Company, headquartered in El Dorado, Arkansas, was originally incorporated in Louisiana in 1950 as Murphy Corporation. It was reincorporated in Delaware in 1964, at which time it adopted the name Murphy Oil Corporation. But, the Company's roots go back to a lumber and banking business in South Arkansas and, more directly, to 1907, when the first oil production was established in the Caddo Field in North Louisiana. Thereafter, oil and gas were important phases of the business.

The Company's operations are classified into two business activities namely, Exploration and Production, and Refining and Marketing. Murphy's exploration and production activities are subdivided into 6 geographic segments, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ecuador, Malaysia and all other countries.

Its refining and marketing activities are subdivided into geographic segments for North America and United Kingdom. The Company's exploration and production business explores for and produces crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids worldwide. The refining and marketing businesses are located in North America and the United Kingdom, and primarily consist of operations that refine crude oil and other feedstocks into petroleum products.

Murphy Oil Corporation announced today that net income in the fourth quarter of 2005 was 154.6 million dollars, compared to net income of 134.5 million dollars, in the fourth quarter of 2004.
 
Today, Murphy Oil Corporation is a worldwide oil and gas exploration and production company with refining and marketing operations in the United States and the United Kingdom and crude oil and natural gas exploration and production operations in Canada. The Company's farm, timber and real estate subsidiary was spun-off to shareholders in 1996 and is now known as Deltic Timber Corporation.
