It also produces conventional gasoline, distillates, jet fuel, asphalt, petrochemicals, lubricants, and other refined products.
 
Valero has a broad refining system with a throughput capacity of around 3.3 million barrels per day. It is the largest refiner in North America. The company's geographically diverse refining network stretches from Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast and West Coast to the Caribbean. In combination with its interest in Valero L.P., Valero has 9,186 miles of pipeline, 97 terminal facilities and four crude oil storage facilities. Many of these facilities complement Valero's refining and marketing assets in the U.S. Southwest and Mid-continent regions.
 
A marketing leader, Valero has about 5,000 retail sites branded as Valero, Diamond Shamrock, Ultramar, Beacon and Shamrock. The company markets on a retail and wholesale basis through a bulk and rack marketing network in 42 U.S. states, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean. Valero has long been recognized throughout the industry as a leader in the production of premium, environmentally clean products, such as reformulated gasoline, California Air Resources Board Phase II gasoline, and low-sulfur diesel and oxygenates.
 
As of December 31, 2005, the company operated 18 refineries in the United States, Canada, and Aruba. Their retailing activities include sale of transportation fuels and home heating oil to residential customers primarily in company-operated convenience stores, Canadian dealer’s jobbers, truck stop facilities, and card lock facilities. Its company-operated convenience stores as well as sell snacks, candy, beer, fast foods, cigarettes, and fountain drinks.
